I Woke Up Living in a Dream - Talking Story with Arlo

 Talking Story with Arlo

I Woke Up Living in a Dream.

By Arlo Agogo - a human storyteller
Hey cats and kittens, this is your old beatnik pal Arlo, seventy years young and still swingin’ through the cosmic jive.
Man, I set my glass of ice water on the nightstand, fluff the pillow, and blast off like a rocket into Dreamland every single night. And dig this – sometimes when I wake up, I gotta rub my eyes and ask the universe: “Am I still groovin’ in the dream,
......or did I just wake up living in one?”
I fell asleep and when I woke up I was living in a dream… Those lines from my favorite tune hit me right in the soul. ‘
Cause that’s exactly how it feels these days.
In this sweet nightly reverie, everything groovy from my wild life is still happenin’. My mom and dad are there, young and laughin’ like they never aged a day. Uncle Jack’s tellin’ his tall tales, eyes twinklin’.
All four of my furry soulmates – Princess, Keesh, Homer, and Tex – are bouncin’ through the fields down by the beach, tongues waggin’, barkin’ with pure joy as we run together like the old days.
My brothers are young bucks again, full of mischief and fun. Mikey and Tim – my dear buddies who’ve passed on to the next gig – they’re right there on the golf course, slicin’ drives and buyin’ rounds at the clubhouse like time never touched us.
And my acquaintances? Oh man, all the beautiful friends from across the decades show up with those big smiles, happy to see me and happy to see each other.
Each one with a never ending stream of Arlo jokes.
We laugh, we dance, we party like it’s the best summer that never ended. No drama, just love and light.
I still got my thriving business hummin’ along. I’m skiiin’ the slopes with the old crew, invited to everything. The beach club is always callin’, and we’re spendin’ long golden days on the sand with the waves crashin’ and the girls lookin’ like something out of a Doors song.
It’s all there – the best chapters of a good life, replayed in full technicolor glory.
At seventy, the waking world has shrunk a bit, sure.
Knees ain’t what they used to be, travel ain’t as easy, and some doors have gently closed. But every night when I climb into bed, my old mind throws the doors wide open and says, “Let’s roll, baby!” I try to steer it sometimes – thinkin’ of a special person or a favorite old spot – and bam!
The dream takes the wheel and drives me straight back to the good times.
I especially dig those tender elementary school scenes. Mom and Dad and Grandma takin’ care of everything, keepin’ me safe, makin’ sure this wild little kid had his schedule and his hugs.
No adult worries about keepin’ myself alive – just pure, innocent joy. Sittin’ with them havin’ tea and Graham Crackers, feelin’ that unbreakable foundation.
🎶  Just like the night sky, stars shining bright… Sun, moon set rise and they passing by… I can see the shadows from the trees swaying in the wind…  What if you could fly? What if you could swim? Choose your own path, bring it up from within. This is the calling of a lifetime.  ðŸŽ¶
And man, it’s comical how real it feels. I’ll wake up reachin’ to see what it would bring for me, half expectin’ to grab a lobster roll from yesterday’s beach picnic or feel Tex’s wet nose on my palm.
Sometimes I sit on the edge of the bed, chucklin’ like a fool, tryin’ to figure out: “Did that really happen, or am I still livin’ in the dream?”
Either way, it’s a gas! The world up above could be reflections of us… revealing and concealing all the past and paths we’ve took.
I think I’ll slow down, take another look.
My waking life is rich with memories, but my dream life is where the party never ends. At seventy I can’t do all the wild physical stuff anymore, but inside my head? I’m runnin’ with the dogs, golfing with the boys, dancin’ with all the girls, and skiiin’ like a madman.
The rocket blasts off every night, and I’m ridin’ it straight back to the best versions of everyone I love.
So here’s the joyful truth, cats: Getting older– it’s about how big you can make the dream when you close your eyes.
I fall asleep knowin’ something beautiful is comin’. And when I wake up… well, sometimes I’m not entirely sure I have.
Now feel the breeze blow through the window… Winds carry sounds develop into echoes… Look what we’ve built with our hands.
Life is one long beautiful dream if you let it be. So tonight, when you set your own glass of ice water down....
Who knows what adventure it’ll bring for you?
Close your eyes and reach out your hand.
